Havana, Cuba, Jun 20 (ACN) UNICEF's Cuba representative Maria Machicado highlighted on Tuesday in Havana the island's efforts in improving the quality of education and generating space of exchanges between professors from several nations.
During the opening of the 1st International Workshop on Secondary Education at Havana's Convention Center, Machicado stressed that adolescence is the most complex period in life and if not treated well can become the most difficult.
She emphasized in comprehensive education in the early years and before the presence of delegates from over 10 countries said that Cuba is an example, with important actions that will strengthen teaching-learning process in early years of life.
Referring to the importance of the event, the UNICEF representative pointed out that the workshop will serve as a moment of reflection on issues like equity, gender, sexual and reproductive health, abortion and teenage pregnancy; a necessary subject to discuss among the region's specialists, she stressed.
The UNICEF representative also commented on bullying in schools, student attitude before information technologies and communications and the values that must be taught at school and home.
Cuba will be host on June 23rd of the event with the slogan "For an Inclusive School" directed at exchanging experiences and consolidate good practices based on respect to cultural diversity.
According to the organizing committee, the participants are teachers from Angola, Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, United States, El Salvador, Colombia and Panama with the largest delegation; and 90 Cuban educators will also attend.
Secondary education in the country has one thousand 180 centers and an enrolment of over 359 thousand 500 students, with 37 thousand 449 teachers.
