HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 4 (ACN) English-Spanish-and French-speaking authors will again gather at the Guadaloupe Fifth Caribbean Writers Congress April 5-8, which will be dedicated this year to Saint Lucia´s Nobel Laureate Sir Derek Walcott.
Sir Derek Alton Walcott, 23 January 1930 – 17 March 2017, was a poet and playwright. He received the 1992 Nobel Prize in Literature. He was Professor of Poetry at the University of Essex from 2010 to 2013. His works include the Homeric epic poem Omeros (1990), which many critics view "as Walcott's major achievement." In addition to winning the Nobel Prize, Walcott received many literary awards over the course of his career.
The Congress has been organized by the by the Guadeloupe Regional Collectivity in partnership with the Association of Caribbean Writers (AEC – Association des Ecrivains de la Caraïbe), according to Caribbean News Now webpage.
The literary event has been held since 2008 as a showcase of a blend of literary genres, the mixing of heritages and writing diversity, and it works as platform of cooperation, to share practice and knowhow and to affirm identity in the varied and wide Caribbean family, reads the information.
The Congress will favor dialog on issues such as what pleasure can be derived from writing about the region that sustains us; what we want to say to readersin the region and elsewhere; among others.
According to the program, authors will visit local schools and share with students. There will be literary and cultural exchanges, exhibits, round tables, workshops, reading sessions.
