GUANTANAMO, Cuba, Jun 27 (acn) The music concert known as the longest Changüí in the world, expected activity of the national festival dedicated to the indigenous rhythm, broke its record of duration when reaching 30 hours, two and something more than what was done in 2014.
At Los Maceo central street, twenty bands playing that bicentennial genre born in Cuba's eastern mountains, displayed their skills from 6 pm until approximately 12:15 am.
The feat smashed what was done two years ago, on May 31st, when similar number of groups played for 28 hours.
Another notable moment of the evening was the concert offered by the popular orchestra Elito Revé and his Charangón, in the neighborhood of Loma del Chivo, where, in 2012, a bronze sculpture was placed with the image of his father, Elio Reve Matos (1930-1997).
The biennial Festival is named after the versatile instrumentalist and orchestra director known as Papa Changüí due to his contributions to this genre and this year marks the 60th anniversary of "El Charangón", founded by him and winner of the Cubadisco 2016 Grand Prize.
The eighth edition of the Festival will close on Monday evening with a tribute to Latamblé –famous musician of this rhythm, on the day of his birth at San Justo neighborhood where he lived until his death in 1993.
