HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 18 (acn) Renowned Cuban ballet star and choreographer Carlos Acosta will present his new company Acosta Danza with a season called Premiere scheduled to kick off on April 8th in the Grand Theater of Havana Alicia Alonso.
With a program of classic ballet and contemporary dance, the creator of works like Tocororo will for the first time launch the concept of a group that responds to the need of its founder that solidifies through his works the artistic vision made up of his professional career.
This new company is an attempt to transfer my philosophy and knowledge to the Cuban scene with new ideas and creating bridges allowing the cooperation with diverse groups in the world, said on Thursday Acosta during a press conference in Havana.
The Cuban element the ballet star will present a project that unites all dance types and tendencies without losing the essence of the Cuban people's mixture and identity under the premise of achieving an association between the island's culture and the world without leaving behind.
I want to create dancers that would be the dream of any choreographer, uniting styles: this is my ambition, said the also Professor and first ballet dance for the London Royal Ballet.
He added that there are already some circuits interested in including the new Cuban company in its programming like New York City Center, institution that is preparing a week of presentations of Acosta Dance in March of 2017.
Important debuts and revivals of the Premiere season with works like Majisimo, Fauno, De Punto a Cabo, Swan Lake and Carmen (this last one is a versión of Acosta on the novel Prosper Merimee with music by George Bizet).
Before the conclusion of the press conference, the Cuban choreographer expressed: I believe in free art or all because it is a right; I did not know what ballet was and my country gave me the chance of learning about it and that is why I contribute all that I can to Cuban culture.
Founded at the end of 2015, Acosta Danza desires to insert itself in the Cuban scene following a contemporary line without leaving behind the development of the techniques of classic ballet.
