Cuba's Septeto Nacional to Perform at Lehman Center of the Bronx

Cuba's Septeto Nacional to Perform at Lehman Center of the BronxHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 15 (acn) Cuba's Septeto Nacional will perform on Saturday, January 16, at the Lehman Center of the Bronx. Accompanying it for its presentation will be the Broadway Orchestra of New York City.

Founded in 1927 by legendary composer Ignacio Piñeiro (Esas no son cubanas) the Septeto Nacional is considered to be among the main references of son rhythm. "To sing son rhythms you have to carry them in your heart," says one of its hits. That's precisely the slogan of the group and New York it will be no exception, Cubasi reported on January 14.
It is not the first time the group visits the Big Apple. The Piñeiro group arrived there in the summer of 1927 to record its first albums and also in 1933, for the Fair "A Century of Progress" of Chicago, where it won the gold medal.
Seventy-six years later, another generation of musicians of the Septeto Nacional arrived in the United States. "It was in 2009, and since then we have been regularly present. If relations between our two countries normalized fully, our presence in the U.S. would be easier and more frequent," said Ricardo R. Fernandez, one of the members of the group.
With the new political scenario and the real possibilities for artists -especially Cubans- perform live on both countries, Fernandez, who in addition to being a composer, an arranger and a producer, is also the author of the book "La Habana tiene su son," points out: "Right now there are real difficulties making smooth exchanges difficult. On this occasion, for example, we will travel without three members of the group, since Ruben (three-string guitar player), Adalberto (trumpet player) and Lazaro (voice and representative), were not given entry visas by the U.S. Embassy in Havana to travel there.
"But thanks to solidarity, musicians in the United States, Yadil Guerra (three-string guitar player) and Agustin Someillan (trumpet player), will perform with our group as guests, so the public that awaits us is not deprived of listening to Cuba's Ignacio Piñeiro Septeto Nacional," he concluded.
