HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 20 (acn) The Pablo Neruda Iberian-American Poetry Prize was given to Cuban Reina Maria Rodriguez, an award she obtained for the second year in a row.
The prize was handed over by President Michelle Bachelet along with Culture Minister Claudia Barattini, the Cubadebate Web site reported on Monday.
On the occasion, President Bachelet pointed out that "Reina Maria Rodriguez receives the Pablo Neruda Prize 10 years after its creation and she's the youngest poet among those who have come to this house of Chilean presidents to accept this award."
In addition, she asserted that "her career is that of a woman that has published works very early in her life, who has obtained acknowledgements both in her country and abroad and who has excelled in prose and poetry."
The Cuban poet arrived in Chile on Saturday and will stay in that nation until August 23. She was in Texas, United Status, when she received the news about the prize.
Reina Maria Rodriguez is known for her profund poetry, linked to Cuban poetry tradition. She's one of the most prize-winning voices of today's Cuban literature.
