Cuban top athletics official dies in HavanaHAVANA, Cuba, Dec 6 (acn) Jesús Molina Hernández, a leading athletics official in Cuba, died in this city at the age of 68, news that caused deep sorrow in the sporting movement of the Caribbean island.

Tireless worker in favor of the sport, Molina gained special prestige in the athletics, and very young he assumed responsibilities of direction in educational centers like the Schools of Sport Initiation (EIDE by its Spanish acronym).
Born on October 15, 1948 in Jaruco, then province of Havana, he was national commissioner of volleyball before playing the same role in athletics for 17 years, during which he also excelled by his work at the International Federation of this sport (IAAF).
Under his direction Cuba hosted international competitions of importance such as the Ibero-American Championship of 1986 and the Intercontinental Cup of 1992, a sample of his knowledge both in the technical order and in the management and assembly of events.
He received numerous distinctions inside and outside the country, including the Veterans Seal and the IAAF Order of Merit; and in 2007 he was inducted to the Hall of Fame of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC).
Despite health problems faced in recent years, he insisted on staying active, as demonstrated by his presence in the organization of the 6th Seminar of Women Leaders of NACAC recently held in Varadero, Matanzas.

Reach to his family and friends the condolences of the Cuban sports movement, especially his colleagues from the athletics federation.
