HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 30 (acn) The Pentagon has launched a probe into the growth in the number of cancer cases among the military and civil employees at the US naval base in the illegally Cuban occupied territory of Guantanamo, according to Military Times newspaper.
The cancer increase has been observed particularly in persons working in trials against the detainees at the prison camp set up in 2002 in that naval base.
The US Department of Defense is aware about the concerns on potential cancer-related elements in sites where military courts are working in the naval base, the paper adds.
Reports say that at least seven civilians and members of the armed forces were diagnosed with Cancer, because they could have been exposed to materials causing such disease, while they are living and working in an area of the base being used to stock aviation fuel and other substances.
