Experts analyze Cuba's track record in trade relations

HAVANA, Cuba, September 22 (ACN) In order to explore the dynamics of Cuban diplomacy regarding trade relations, the Scientific Council of the Institute of Cuban History (IHC by its Spanish acronym) met today in Havana to discuss research lines related to these topics.

The meeting, held in the Golden Hall of the Museum of the Revolution, was dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, to be celebrated next year.

With the participation of prominent historians and researchers, the results of extensive research on the diplomatic and economic relations between Cuba and its trading partners were evaluated.

PhD. Servando Valdez Sanchez, a researcher at the IHC, explained that the discussion presents an integral view of the historical and diplomatic evolution of Cuba, from its Spanish colonial period to the consolidation of its sovereignty after 1959, also analyzing the impact of international events such as the Spanish Civil War and World War II on bilateral ties.

Key stages were highlighted, such as the 1927 Commercial Treaty between Cuba and the United States and the stabilization of diplomatic and trade relations during the post-war period (after 1945).

This period, marked by significant political and economic transformations in Cuba, is examined from a commercial perspective with the aim of promoting Cuban interests in the regional market.

Furthermore, the study allows for an understanding of the interactions between economy, politics, national dignity, and culture, and is based on a broad use of Cuban documentary sources and a diverse bibliography that supports a rigorous historical, political, and legal analysis.

One of the highlighted studies offers a renewed interpretation of the diplomatic and trade relations between Cuba and Spain, opening new avenues of research to better understand the contemporary history of both nations.

The work also addresses the social and political impact of these processes on Cuban society, reflecting internal debates and the conditions of the Spanish exile community in Cuba.

The session also invited members of the Scientific Council to present new research projects for the period 2026-2030, reaffirming the IHC's commitment to promoting historical research and scientific development on topics of national and international relevance related to Cuban history.

The IHC has played a fundamental role in the preservation, study, and dissemination of Cuba's historical heritage since its founding, promoting rigorous and multidisciplinary academic research, which has established a platform for in-depth analysis of national and international historical processes linked to Cuba's identity, sovereignty, and social transformations.

Its work contributes to strengthening the historical knowledge that underpins national memory and culture, through the publication of studies, the organization of scientific events, and the training of specialized researchers.
