HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 21 (ACN) Cuba submitted its Third National Report on compliance with the Convention on Nuclear Safety in strict adherence to its international commitments, so that all Contracting Parties can review it.
"We submitted the document within the stipulated deadline and it’s now available to all member countries of the convention, which proves once again our transparency and responsibility," said Rosbell Bosch Robaina, head of the Nuclear Safety Division of the Office of Regulatory and Environmental Safety (ORSA).
He recalled that the convention was adopted in Vienna in 1994―following the Chernobyl accident on April 26, 1986―with the aim of strengthening safety in nuclear facilities worldwide.
Cuba ratified the convention in October 2017, reaffirming its commitment to international cooperation and to the highest standards in this area, even though no nuclear power plant is currently operating in the island, he stressed.
Mr. Bosch pointed out that this type of open and participatory review involves experts and technicians from nuclear and radiological regulatory bodies and allows for the exchange of views to evaluate achievements and challenges.
The 10th Review Meeting, scheduled to be held in March 2026, will be the forum where Cuba will present its report, answer any questions received in the coming months, and will also have the opportunity to assess the progress made by neighboring countries where similar initiatives have been taken.
