HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 30 (ACN) The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in collaboration with the Cuban Neuroscience Center, is promoting specific initiatives to develop devices and equipment to benefit people with different disabilities and illnesses in the country.
They are working to manufacture implantable devices for the treatment of chronic pain and epilepsy, as well as advanced hearing and prosthetic solutions using 3D printing technologies, which will allow for greater customization and accessibility for beneficiaries.
Fidel Domenech Lopez, UNIDO Country Program Coordinator in Cuba, assured the Cuban News Agency that the organization is making progress in implementing its country program, which focuses on five key areas of work defined with the Cuban government.
These areas not only aim to boost economic sectors but also public health. UNIDO has placed special emphasis on the inclusion of persons with disabilities, promoting projects aimed at strengthening the national industry in the design and production of assistive technologies.
Domenech Lopez stated that more than 100 products have been identified that seek to improve the quality of life and autonomy of this population group.
He also noted that the inclusion of persons with disabilities is a priority, as is the empowerment of women and youth, in the new country program, which UNIDO uses to determine the projects it executes.
The organization thus reaffirms its commitment to Cuba's sustainable development, coordinating international and national efforts to promote industrial modernization, innovation, and social equity on the island.
