SANCTI SPIRITUS, Cuba, Feb 16 (ACN) The creation of work spaces thanks to donation of materials and the possibility of using tools to preserve or mitigate the deterioration of paper, ceramics or wood in heritage sites are among the results of a cooperation project between Cuba and the Italian Latin American Institute (ILA), whose involvement with the island celebrates two decades this year.
Anyxa Quesada, coordinator of these initiatives in Cuba, said that the link with ILA began in 2005 through the Office of the Historian of Havana and focused on archaeological ceramics before it was extended to other sites of the network of heritage cities, starting with Cienfuegos.
“This project has been quite useful, since it facilitates our work with donated equipment, materials and supplies”, she remarked.
On her end, Cecilia Santinelli, a consultant with the said international organization that also engages Latin American countries, ratified ILA's close ties with Cuba and highlighted their joint efforts to strengthen each nation’s cultural heritage and history.
ILA experts organized a workshop in November 2023 to teach techniques and methodologies designed to identify the most recurrent damages to documentary archives and the measures to prevent them.
