Havana, Feb 13 (ACN) The Panama-based Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO) urged the US administration to exclude Cuba from a list of alleged states sponsors of terrorism.
A communique by PARLATINO board of directors recalls that the regional parliament has historically opposed the use of unilateral coercive measures and considers them contrary to international law, according to a report by the Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina.
For the regional legislative body, the blacklisting of Cuba is unfair and groundless as it was stressed in the PARLATINO declaration issued during its 38th Session last December.
The document explains that just few days after outgoing US Joe Biden administration removed Cuba from the list and admitting that its agencies had no evidence at all to keep blacklisting the island, the new US Donald Trump government relisted the Caribbean nation as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The US arbitrary and unilateral move aims at justifying the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for over 60 years now, the PARLATINO noted, and added that the US maintains its siege on the island nation although the UN General Assembly has demanded the lifting of that policy every year since 1992.
The US Policy of sanctions against Cuba causes huge material shortage, fuels migration and impacts the right of the Cuban people to their own development, while it has extraterritorial nature by affecting third parties if they have commercial or financial relations with Cuba.
