BAYAMO, Cuba, Dec 9 (ACN) Students in the municipalities of Campechuela and Pilon, in the eastern province of Granma, are now enjoying new school materials thanks to a recent donation from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).
Affected by the strong earthquakes of last November 10, these localities received the solidarity initiative as part of the Socioemotional Route Cuba 24-25, a Unesco project along with the Cuban Ministry of Education.
During the last 4 and 5 days, in the different educational institutions visited, the representatives of the international organization not only delivered useful resources for the teaching-educational process, but also carried out cultural activities and participation games with the students.
Henry Rena, Education Coordinator of Unesco's Regional Office, declared that the trip began in Guantanamo territory, where they reached communities affected by Hurricane Oscar in October this year.
The objectives, he said, are to contribute to the continuity of the school year in the affected schools, as well as to carry out recreational-educational and emotional support activities for students and teachers.
They also intend to support young people with a seed fund for initiatives led by them, in order to promote the recovery of the communities, he added.
After taking its initiative of solidarity and joy to Guantanamo and Granma, the Socioemotional Route will continue its journey to western Cuba, in the territories of Mayabeque and Havana, recently hit by hurricane Rafael.
