MATANZAS, Cuba, Oct 30 (ACN) “The vote at the United Nations in favor of the resolution to end the U.S. blockade makes us happy, as we see that Cuba enjoys international recognition”, said Magalys Menéndez Peñate, a popular educator who holds a Master’s Degree in Social and Community Studies.
“The recent acceptance of Cuba to be part of the BRICS and the fact that most countries oppose the hostile U.S. Cuba policies are highly significant realities that reveal the way the world sees our nation, marked by sovereignty, internationalism and solidarity”, she remarked.
Menéndez Peñate is a coordinator of the Popular Educators Network Libélulas in the province of Matanzas, where the members help overcome the restrictions imposed by the blockade through the organization and promotion of integral processes to assist people with the cooperation of the Martin Luther King Memorial Center.
“Encouraging as the majority support of the international community may be, we are fully aware of our sovereign responsibility to grow and be more efficient and transparent in ways fully consistent with the real needs of the citizens”, she added.
After two debate sessions, the draft resolution submitted by Cuba to the United Nations General Assembly on the need to end the U.S. blockade was approved on October 30 with 187 votes in favor, two against (United States and Israel) and one abstention (Moldova).
