HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 24 (ACN) Agencies involved in a project dedicated to promoting agro-ecological and sustainable energy transition in eight municipalities in the country will hold a meeting today at the National Hotel.
The initiative proposes an ecological and decentralized municipal development model that promotes self-sufficiency and food and energy sustainability, with the application of principles of circularity and effective governance, in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic and the National Plan for Economic and Social Development until 2030.
Guanabacoa, in Havana; Isle of Youth; Marti, in Matanzas; Manicaragua and Remedios, in Villa Clara; and Yaguajay, Trinidad and Cabaiguan, in Sancti Spiritus; are the territories where the actions will be developed, through which more than 531,000 inhabitants of these municipalities will benefit from increased food production with agroecological bases and access to clean energy.
This platform is included in the Multiannual Indicative Program of the EU in Cuba for 2021 to 2027, in accordance with the cooperation priorities of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Joint Programming between Italy and the island.
Other organizations participating in Sustainable Municipality include the Ministries of Agriculture (Minag), Energy and Mines (Minem), Public Health (Minsap) and Higher Education (MES by its Spanish acronym) and the National Institutes of Hydraulic Resources (INRH) and Territorial and Urban Planning (INOTU by its Spanish acronym).
