HOLGUIN, Cuba, Sep 3 (ACN) The international project Strengthening Leadership and Participation of Women in the Renewable Energy Sector in Cuba (Former by its Spanish acronym) expands the use of these alternatives in the Cuban eastern province of Holguin through the training of students linked to them.
Through a donation of equipment and teaching aids to the Luis de Feria Polytechnic, where students are trained in these specialties, the program makes it possible to increase knowledge of these issues and develop science and technological innovation around them.
Alexander Leyva Valdespino, an expert linked to the field, told the Cuban News Agency that a specialized classroom is installed in this institution where students are trained in the assembly of solar panels, the principle of operation of hydroelectric plants, as well as the design of biogas treatment plants.
He said that the strategy extends to the donation of heaters and panels at the Octavio de la Concepcion and Pedraja Pediatric Hospital and the rural locality of La Melba, in the mining and metallurgical municipality of Moa.
Former, a collaborative project between Cuba and Canada, also includes the installation of solar pumps for water supply in farms and rural settlements in the territory of Holguin, with a considerable improvement in the accessibility to these services.
Since 2020, this international program has been implemented in Cuba with the aim of promoting a 24 % change in the energy matrix, one of the Caribbean island's development objectives up to 2030.
