HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 12 (ACN) The invitation made by Cuba to presidents and other personalities to participate at the Summit of the Group of 77 and China, continues accepting expressions of approval, according to reports from news agencies and different foreign ministries.
Presidents Évariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço of Angola and Mahmud Abás of Palestine, as well as Geraldo Joao Martins, Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau, have confirmed their attendance in the last hours or days.
Li Xi, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China ("CCP"), will travel to Havana as a special representative of President Xi Jinping, as will Panama's Foreign Minister Janaina Tewaney, appointed by President Laurentino Cortizo.
Qu Dongyu, director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and secretaries general Doreen Bogdan-Martin, of the International Telecommunications Union, and Rebeca Grynspan, of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), also announced that they would be attending the G-77 and China Summit.
As reported by the media, other heads of state and high-level officials of international organizations, such as Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General, confirmed that they will be in Havana on the 15th and 16th.
With the warm welcome that they deserve and that we are enthusiastic to extend to them, we will be receiving all the countries of the Group of 77 and China. Every minute counts in the search for solutions to the pressing problems of our nations, said Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of Cuba, in calling for the celebration of the meeting.
Last January, Cuba assumed the pro tempore presidency of this negotiating mechanism of developing nations, and this year Havana has hosted important events related to the G-77 and China, among them, the meetings of the Ministers of Education, Culture and Tourism of its member countries.
Created in June 1964, it is the largest and most diverse group in the multilateral sphere, with 134 member states, and during the Summit, leaders and other personalities will focus their discussions on the current challenges of development and the role of science, technology and innovation.
