Santiago de Cuba, Aug 21 (ACN) The Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC) in this eastern province is encouraging debates at communities and work centers on genre violence, as part of a program of activities marking the 63rd anniversary of the women’s organization.
FMC ideology official Sunilda Montes de Oca told the Cuban News Agency that the initiative discloses a political process aimed at preventing genre violence particularly in the family environment and counting on the support of an expert team from the Centers for the Advice of Women and Families.
The aim is to have people identify and denounce violent acts in a process that includes the participation of the Cuban police and the provincial prosecutor’s office, the official noted.
Local attorney said that the main role of the prosecutor’s office is to supervise the control of the investigation and its legality, protect the interests of the victims by providing them with knowledge about their rights as established on the Penal Code and Cuban Law.
The official said that some 20 crimes involving genre violence are being processed at the time, with rigorous treatment in the case of murder imposing from 20 to 30 years in jail or life imprisonment.
