SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Aug 10 (ACN) The Cuban Trade Unions (CTC) in the province of Santiago de Cuba is saluting August 13—Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro’s 97th birthday—with visits to heritage sites, special morning discussions and cultural activities across workplaces.
According to Yanet Despaigne, head of the CTC’s ideological division in the province, workers' leaders are reenacting the tours of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution through regional towns and health centers, and meetings have been organized in departments of local universities devoted to the study of the life and work of the eternal leader to talk about his thoughts on public health and professional training.
The celebrations include photographic exhibitions with images that immortalize his involvement in the inauguration of enterprises, schools and medical entities, as well as cultural and recreational activities in public squares and parks across the province and a large-scale mobilization to agricultural production areas.
As a champion of equality and social justice, Fidel Castro recognized the importance of engaging women in work and described the workers' movement as essential to consolidate the country's socialist social system.
