Weightlifting Grand Prix in Havana with high quality competitors

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 13 (ACN) With the incorporation of Mexico to the medal table and more titles for the United States, the fight strengthened in the Grand Prix of Weightlifting in Havana, an Olympic qualifier.

Mexican Janeth Gómez won the three gold medals in the 59 kilograms (kg) bodyweight category, thanks to lifting 98 kg in the snatch and 125 kg in the deadlift, valid for the 223 biathlon.

Gomez was followed on the podium by US Taylor Nicole Wilkins (97, 124 and 221) and Belarusian athlete competing as a neutral athlete Alina Shchapanava (95, 120 and 215).

Today, the sixth day of the Grand Prix will start with the United States leading the medal table with six golds on Sunday.

Behind are Indonesia with five titles and Cuba, Colombia and Mexico with three, according to the results officialized by the International Weightlifting Federation.

Cubans Edisnel Corrales and Yorelbis Machado will compete this afternoon in Group B of the 81 kg division and Regla de la Caridad Morales in the 64 kg section A (final), and the 81 kg men will also compete for the podium in a section with no local presence.
