HAVANA, Cuba, Ded 14 (acn) Nicolas Maduro, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, send on Sunday in this capital a warm embrace to Revolution leader Fidel Castro, on the date in which 20 years ago he received Commander Hugo Chavez.
On Sunday, Maduro addressed participants in the inaugural session of the 13th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance of the Americas-Trade Treaty of the Peoples (ALBA-TCP), in a day that coincides with the 10th anniversary of the creation of ALBA by the top leaders of Cuba and Venezuela at the time.
He recalled the first trip of Chavez to Havana in 1994, when the two leaders prophesied the failure of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) promoted by the U.S. government to maintain its socioeconomic predominance over the region.
However, Fidel and Chavez proposed the Bolivarian alternative for the Americas, added the Venezuelan head of state in the presence of Cuban President Raul Castro, other heads of state and government and heads of delegations.
Maduro commented that for the first time an organization of integration to support rights to health and food as inalienable rights of Latin American and Caribbean peoples was created.
He expressed his country's gratitude for solidarity received and exemplified with the fact that Venezuela is free from illiteracy thanks to the ALBA-TCP and to its progress in social and economic tasks.
The Venezuelan President also cited the results of Operation Miracle -a project aimed at improving or restoring the vision of people in need-, which has already benefited over three million persons, a figure that should increase to six million in August.
