HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 15 (ACN) Cuban and Japanese authorities signed in Havana the Record of Discussion of a technical cooperation project for capacity building in the integrated management of water resources, which has as its main goal the improvement of drainage basins in western Cuba where groundwater levels are decreasing and threatened by salinization.
Among the signatories was Ashida Tatsuya, new accredited representative in Havana of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in charge of the execution of the Official Development Assistance program, the main financial instrument of the Japanese government.
Mr. Tatsuya, who described the Record as extremely useful for both parties because it involves exchanges, mobilization of financial and professional resources and capacity building in the two countries, remarked that the implementation of the project will take 60 months and benefit six local aquifers or geological formations, made of one or more layers of rocks capable of storing and yielding water.
