HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 19 (ACN) “Cuba is a beacon, a path and an example to those who dream of a better and more humane world,” said Reverend Claudia de la Cruz, co-director of the People’s Forum in New York and member of the 32nd Friendshipment Caravan organized by Pastors for Peace, whose members called for the end of the U.S. blockade of Cuba.
De la Cruz conveyed the group's willingness to work for peace, justice and dignity as she thanked the Cubans for their persistence and conviction that a process of changes based on social justice is indeed possible.
Local authorities and representatives of the Dr Martin Luther King Memorial Center (CMLK) and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) highlighted the legacy of solidarity and humanism of this movement and evoked the lives and work of Lucius Walker, founder of the Caravans in 1992, and former South African President Nelson Mandela, whose struggle for justice and friendship bonded him to Cuba.
The Pastors for Peace Friendshipment Caravan members will meet with and attend lectures by various Cuban personalities in several provinces, including Cienfuegos, where they will participate in the celebrations to commemorate the 69th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks and visit the San Pablo Episcopal Church.
