Holguin, Cuba, Jun 28 (ACN) Young Cuban Yaime Aguilera (22) lives at neighborhood of Vista Alegre in this eastern Cuban city; she was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and has been her treatment affected by the shortage of medical resources inflicted by the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the Cuban people.

Aguilera takes chemo, a treatment costing between 10 and 100 thousand dollars abroad, but in Cuba it’s free for cancer patients; however, she faces the restrictions imposed on Cuba by the US hostile policy maintained by successive administrations and strengthened under Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
The young lady extended her gratefulness for the assistance she receives from medical professionals who make their best efforts to cushion the impact of lack of medicines on her treatment and recovery.
Major effects of the US blockade show in the ban of access to technologies, equipment and drugs to assist people suffering from tumors, said Doctor Nitza Sanz, from the Holguin Oncological Center. The doctor also pointed to restrictions to get raw materials for post-surgery prothesis in the case of breast cancer patients.
Despite the US siege of the Caribbean nation, the Holguin Oncological Center assists some three thousand patients annually by using specialized techniques, including ozone therapy, X-rays, and others.
