HOLGUÍN, Cuba, Mar 31 (ACN) With the aim of contributing to food sovereignty and the use of local capacities, the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA) implements actions to this end in the province of Holguin, pursuant to Cuba’s goals of economic development, which includes training producers on the use of organic fertilizers and agricultural mechanization to improve yields and replace imports, one of the ongoing programs.
Norelis Peña, an environment specialist with CITMA’s local office, told ACN that the program also addresses the use of global warming-resistant fertilizers and the decision-making process to monitor cultivation zones near protected areas and the sustainable management of forest plots for the benefit of silviculture.
The national program for food sovereignty and nutrition education in Cuba promotes long-term projects to produce food with sustainable methods in order to be less dependent on foreign consumables, without neglecting our respect for cultural diversity and our commitment to the environment.
