ARTEMISA, Cuba, Mar 27 (ACN) On September 5, Cuba and Egypt will celebrate 73 years of diplomatic relations, which they hailed with the planting of two mahogany trees at the residence of His Excellency Maher El-Adawy, Egyptian ambassador to Havana, and earlier this month with another event called Entre Pirámides y Mogotes (Between pyramids and mogotes).
“The present generation of Egyptian leaders is duty-bound to preserve both nations’ friendship and goodwill, represented by these trees,” Mr. El-Adawy said. “This activity to celebrate our solidarity coincides with the organization in Egypt of the COP27 Climate Summit to be held this year in Sharm el Sheikh, so I expect that these trees, as a symbol of nature and hope, will be an incentive for Cuba's strong presence in that meeting.”
Frank Hernandez Gonzalez, government economic program coordinator in the province of Artemisa, recalled Egypt's contributions to universal culture such as the calendar and medicine and the improvement of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Egypt since July 1959, when Commander Ernesto Che Guevara visited Cairo.
“We are always grateful for Egypt's support of the Resolution that Cuba submits every year to the United Nations General Assembly demanding the end of the U.S. blockade, reinforced by the Trump Administration,” he stressed. “I am confident that the friendship between our two nations will keep growing along with the trees that we planted here.”
