Havana, Feb 24 (ACN) The development of the National Program for women’s empowerment, employment opportunities and the women’s role in the setting up of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) was on the spotlight of a National Plenary Session of the Cuban Women Federation (FMC).
Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Politburo of Cuba’s Communist Party and Organization Secretary of its Central Committee, noted how women entrepreneurs at the new MSMEs contribute to the country’s food sovereignty and other key economic sectors.
The women play a crucial role in changing the mindset and ways of action for the sake of the development of the political and social strategy of the Cuban state and government.
Teresa Amarelle Boure, member of the Cuban Communist Party Politburo and general secretary of the Cuban Women’s Federation insisted in the need to foster education under a genre approach in families and communities, as well as the expansion of children daycare facilities to support working women.
Representatives from rural areas in eastern, central and western Cuba contributed their experiences about the setting up of the MSMEs in their own communities with the participation of FMC members. They also referred to the significance of promoting women leaders, education about labor and economic independence.
