SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Feb 16 (ACN) For Raiza Aljoe, a resident of this city, holds that one of the strengths of the draft Family Code is that it recognizes the rights of children and teenagers, in line with the Cuban Constitution and other current treaties on family matters.
She stated her gratitude for the reference to rights such as the participation of this age group in making family decisions about their interests, physical integrity and personality development, as well as to the provisions based on the recognition of different types of families and the respect for human rights.
Another local resident, Geovanis Peña, referred to the new opportunities for the elderly and the development of close communication links between them and their next of kin and described as positive the Code’s stress on equality between men and women and the protection of families from any form of violence and discrimination.
On her end, Carmen Sánchez highlighted the fact that this draft is the result of years of work, given the need for legislation in line with the plurality of today’s Cuban society.
The ongoing popular consultation will make it possible to amend, increase or reduce the text of version 24 of the Family Code—approved last December by the National Assembly of People’s Power—and to clarify any point with the experts in Law involved in this civic and democratic exercise.
