Havana, Feb 8 (ACN) The implementation of a birthrate-encouraging policy, whose results can show in the long run, will be the way to achieve population replacement, said Antonio Aja, director of the Center for Demographic Studies at the University of Havana, during the second day of “University 2022” International Congress.
The policy is included in the guidelines approved by the 8th Congress of Cuba’s Communist Party and it will be backed by the improvement of the people’s quality of life, integral family development and the cultural transformation of the population. This will require—Aja said—that senior citizens, enjoying healthy mental and physical capacities, join in economic and socio-political actions in the country.
The Havana University’s Senior Citizen Department plays an important role in the proposed policy since it promotes an active aged population in a knowledge-sharing environment, said the specialist and noted that aging must be met with actions aimed at reducing mortality and morbidity rates, regulating internal and external migration and urbanization.
The 13th University 2022 International Congress will run till Friday as participants address issues including genre, transformation of pedagogical training, innovation, research and education development.
