SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Jan 27 (ACN) The Regional Delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA), committed to the use of science for agri-food development in the province of Santiago de Cuba, boasts commendable results with the local program for sustainable food production, especially meat and coffee, with emphasis on food safety.
Arlenis Tamayo Viscay, an expert on scientific policies, told ACN about the promotion of rabbit-and pig-farming with feed based on corn, sorghum and protein plants and the use of irrigation systems with water treated by magnetic conditioners in breeding farms and nurseries to increase the production of seedlings, shorten the harvest cycle and save water.
The Center for Applied Electromagnetism is also studying the effects of the magnetic field on microorganisms of interest to the sugar agroindustry and conducting experiments to improve yeast fermentation, said Tamayo Viscay.
“They are working on the implementation of good practices to use beneficial organic substances in food production and conservation and the introduction of a new technology for the production of a pest bio-controller based on the application of a magnetic field for crop protection,” she concluded.
