HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 30 (ACN) The National Ornithological Association of Cuba (ANOC) confirmed its interest in recovering the genetics of birds after 22 months of limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is also essential to resume our municipal, provincial and national championships,” ANOC president Rafael Lima told ACN. “Things are difficult now when it comes to feeding the birds, which are imported, and getting the necessary resources and supplies despite the U.S. economic, financial and commercial blockade.”
Lima pointed out that the decisions regarding future measures became agreements of the ANOC National Council, made up of representatives of various related ornithological and veterinary entities, and reported that the organization’s headquarters, as well as the National Exhibition Center, located in the province of Matanzas, are being repaired.
He sent his congratulations to ANOC members and their families, stating his sorrow for the deceased and conveying a special recognition to the Cuban health workers, who have risked their lives in the fight against COVD-19.
The National Ornithological Association of Cuba gathers Cuban and foreign citizens living in the country that devote themselves to breeding birds in captivity, both useful and ornamental, except for homing pigeons and fighting cocks.
Its history dates back to the Asociación de Canaricultores de Cuba, founded in 1947, to which the Revolutionary Government dedicated two philatelic postal series. Officially established on March 17, 1985, nowadays ANOC has 3,554 members in 16 provincial branches. It’s a member of the World Ornithological Confederation and has links with other international ornithological societies for the exchange of experiences and breeding stocks, participate in exhibitions and fairs, and share specialized literature.
