ARTEMISA, Cuba, Nov 1 (ACN) Come November 10, we will see the people’s power delegates rendering accounts to their constituents, an ideal occasion to get the community involved in the efforts to solve the most pressing problems of their neighborhoods, said Jorge Luis Torres Barrios, Deputy for the province of Artemisa.
“One of the goals of these meetings with the voters is to discuss the issue of illegal acts and the main problems they have, as well as to announce the province’s action plan for vulnerable communities,” he told ACN.
“Change should be all-encompassing, since you only get to notice the repair work done on a street, a doctor's office or a school, but there are also problems related to behaviors such as alcoholism or social indiscipline. Therefore, these accountability assemblies make it possible for us to exchange ideas on how to solve our problems, as well as to mobilize people in support of the government's management and to make everything sustainable in order to improve their quality of life,” he remarked.
At a meeting with the top provincial cadre, Artemisa Governor Ricardo Concepción Rodríguez stressed the need to systematically respond to the population's suggestions rather than just wait for the accountability assemblies, which will take place in what he described as a very complex ideological moment marked by constant attacks to the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba and the intention to sabotage this process.
The provincial process to have the People’s Power delegates render accounts to their electors will include 4,380 meetings, in which the constituents will be informed about the current situation in Cuba as a result of COVID-19’s impact and the tightening of the U.S. blockade.
