Foreign Ministers of Cuba and China meet in BeijingHAVANA, Cuba, May 29 (ACN) Cuba's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodriguez, said in Beijing that his country and China will continue to consolidate as an example of cooperation on the basis of equality, respect and mutual benefit.

At the end of official talks with his host, Wang Yi, Rodriguez assured that the island celebrates the Chinese successes, and has confidence in the technology and companies of the Asian giant, its second commercial partner and important destination for exports of goods and services, according to a report from the Prensa Latina headquarters.

"Cuba has opted for Chinese technology as an essential component of development (...) and will resolutely oppose any unilateral coercive measure, sanctions, trade war or tariffs," he said.

The Cuban Foreign Minister also announced the signing, on Wednesday, of a political consultation plan for the period 2020-2022.

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi confirmed that his country will always maintain its support for Cuba's just struggle against foreign interference and the U.S. economic, financial and commercial blockade.

He called for closer communication, strategic collaboration and coordination in the international arena, safeguarding legitimate interests and contributing to the promotion of peace and progress in the face of the complex challenges of today's world.

Wang also referred to Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel's Beijing dialogues with Chinese President Xi Jinping last November as fruitful and further encouraging the development of ties.

According to him, China is ready to implement the consensus reached by the two leaders, strengthen exchanges at all levels and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Road and Belt initiative in order to deepen cooperation in sectors such as trade, clean energy, agriculture, tourism, biopharmaceuticals and telecommunications.

Both Wang and Rodríguez stressed the friendship of the socialist countries, since Cuba was the first western country to recognize the People's Republic of China, 59 years ago now, and in 2019 they commemorate two anniversaries: the seventieth since the founding of the People's Republic of China and the sixtieth anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban revolution.

During the talks, the parties exchanged views on cooperation between China, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the situation in Venezuela.

On the issue of the South American nation, they ratified that it will only be resolved through peaceful means and consultations without external interference.

Rodríguez arrived in China from Russia, where he also met with his counterpart Serguei Lavrov.
