HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 4 (ACN) Thongloun Sisoulith, secretary general of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and president of the Republic, met today with Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State,who is visiting the Asian country at the head of a delegation to participate in the celebrations in Vientiane for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Laos, among other official activities.
Lazo Hernández also met with Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, to whom he conveyed warm greetings from President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero.
On Sunday, the Cuban official and the Speaker of the National Assembly of Laos, Xaysonphone Phomvihane, signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at deepening ties between the two legislatures.
The signing took place after a working meeting between delegations of both nations in which Lazo Hernández referred to historical milestones since the establishment of diplomatic relations on November 4, 1974, including the visit that Laotian national hero Kaysone Phomvihane paid to Cuba in 1976 and that of Raul Castro to Laos in 2005, when he was second secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, as well as Díaz-Canel’s trip to Laos in 2018 and his counterpart Thonglon Sisoulith’s to Havana last year to attend the G77+China Summit.
“These visits are revealing of the importance that we attach to the development of bilateral relations and the trust, understanding and mutual respect that prevails between our two nations”, Lazo Hernández remarked.
