Voices against blockade of Cuba raise across the U.S.

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 27 (ACN) Rallies were organized Sunday in 35 U.S. cities as the vote in the UN General Assembly on a resolution calling for the end of the blockade of Cuba draws near, Prensa Latina news agency reports from Washington.

Demonstrators in the Big Apple protested against the said U.S. Cuba policy, whereas the L.A.-based “Hands Off Cuba” Committee convened a march and announced international protests as well in more than 65 countries to decry both the blockade and the inclusion of Cuba in Washington's list of alleged terrorist nations.

The committee’s message remarks that this unilateral siege laid by successive U.S. governments prevents Cuba from importing oil and spare parts to fix its power grid, among other supplies, and thus aggravates the island’s economic situation, as did the recent impact of Hurricane Oscar on eastern Cuba.

These expressions of support precede the 32nd vote in the UN General Assembly on the Resolution “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba”.

According to Havana authorities, Cuba suffered losses in excess of USD 5 billion between March 1, 2023 and February 29, 2024 alone as a result of this U.S. measure.
