Top Venezuelan Parliamentarian Suggests Breaking Relations with Spain

Havana, Sept 11 (ACN) The president of Venezuela’s National Assembly (Parliament), Jorge Rodriguez said on Wednesday that he will ask the executive to break diplomatic and commercial relations with Spain, following Madrid’s interference with Venezuelan domestic affairs.

Rodriguez suggested to cut flights between Venezuela and Spain and immediately close all business with Spanish companies, after rejecting what he called “rude and interventionist decision” of the extreme right at Spain’s Congress of Deputies to not recognize the electoral triumph of President Nicolas Maduro.

Rodriguez criticized intentions to recognize the former opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez, currently exiled in Spain, as Venezuelan president, a position he described as “the most brutal attack” against the South American nation, PL news agency reported.

Other Venezuelan authorities also blasted the Spanish lawmakers’ position, including the first vice-president of Venezuela’s United Socialist Party, Diosdado Cabello, who said that Venezuela stopped being a Spanish colony over 300 years ago.lc
