Havana, April 11 (ACN) A Meeting of Heads of State and Government with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States to deal with the crisis in Ecuador has been postpone for next Tuesday, the bloc’s pro-tempore president, Xiomara Castro announced.
The meeting, originally called for Friday online, will consider actions to urge the Ecuadorian government to rectify after its violent storming of the Mexican embassy in Quito last Friday.
The gathering was called after Ecuador’s violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention and its Asylum convention, said Castro, who is the head of state of Honduras.
Last April 4, the Daniel Noboa administration declared Mexican ambassador Raquel Serur as person non-grata in response to comments by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador about the murder of ex-presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio.
In this context, Mexico granted political asylum to Jorge Glas, but Ecuadorian police stormed the Mexican embassy and arrested Glas in a high-security prison.
Ecuador’s actions found the rejection of the international community which considered it an unprecedented event.
