Havana, April 8 (ACN) The United Nations called on Monday for the immediate cease of attacks against Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, the largest of its kind in Europe.
In a communique released in New York and cited by PL news agency, UN Secretary General Antonio Gueterres’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, echoed the alert launched by International Atomic Energy Agency’s Rafael Mariano, who described the attacks as imprudent.
The spokesperson called for the end of drone attacks against the nuclear plant, controlled by Russia since February 2022.
Imprudent attacks significantly increase the risk of a nuclear incident and must stop immediately, said Grossi.
On Monday, Kremlim’s spokesperson Dmitri Peskov said that the Ukrainian attacks against the power plant constitute a very dangerous provocation which may have very serious consequences in the long run.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Permanent Representative at the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, called on the international community to condemn the attacks which pose a nuclear danger.
The power plant media service reported attacks by Ukrainian drones on April 5th in the areas of cargo at the port and also on the nitrogen and oxygen station.
The events are expected to be addressed at the next meeting of the UN Security Council on the conflict, said the permanent representative. He rejected speculations that Russia was the perpetrator of the attacks against its own nuclear plant.
