Havana, March 18 (ACN) Cuba’s Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia is heading the island’s delegation to the 38th Regional Conference of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The forum is taking place in Georgetown, Guyana till March 21, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
The Conference is considering food security, the transformation of agri-food systems in the region in tune with each country’s reality. Also on the agenda is the development of fishing and aquiculture, the reduction of hunger and malnutrition and the application of science to agriculture.
The forum is being attended by government officials from 33 FAO member states in this region. Also present are heads of state, ministers of agriculture and other sectors, representatives of the Holy See, UN agencies and of civil society, the private sector, academies as well as non-members and countries under observer state.
