HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 27 (ACN) Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Cuban Council of State, said that the goal of his visit to Angola is to strengthen the relations of friendship, cooperation and affection with the Parliament of the African country.
After a meeting with his Angolan counterpart, Carolina Cerqueira, the Cuban parliamentary leader praised the historic relations between the two nations and remarked that they transcend economic, political and social ties, as they consolidated in common struggle and bloodshed to defend Angola's independence, an effort stemmed from the friendship between and fighting spirit of two great men: Agostinho Neto and Fidel Castro.
Both parties highlighted the importance of the visit that Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel paid to Angola in August 2023, where he addressed the National Assembly in Luanda, as well as of the presence of the Vice-President of the Cuban Legislative, Ana María Mari Machado, at last year’s Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Lazo Hernández also met with an Angolan parliamentary delegation to keep boosting cooperation and regular exchanges between groups and commissions of both legislative bodies.
“We are very happy to be here, where we feel at home among our brothers and sisters. Our warm, supportive and fraternal greetings to the Angolan people,” the Cuban official said.
On her end, Carolina Cerqueira agreed on the need to keep promoting collaboration in fields of common interest and stressed that parliamentary ties can contribute a great deal to the development of intergovernmental ties.
