Cuba obtains sensitive information on its doctors kidnapped in Kenya



HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 26 (ACN) Cuban foreign ministry informed today that, as a result of the efforts of Esteban Lazo as High Level Special Envoy of the President of the Republic, sensitive information has been obtained in Kenya that helps to advance in the clarification of the news spread about the alleged deaths of Cuban doctors Assel Herrera Correa and Landy Rodriguez Hernandez, in Somalia, where they were being held kidnapped.

In a statement published on its website, Cuban foreign ministry said that the information obtained is currently being processed by the authorities in charge of closely following up on the investigation.

Likewise, negotiations continue with different governments and international actors in search of cooperation and further clarification.

During his visit to the Republic of Kenya, Lazo noted the spirit of cooperation of that country and thanked it for its understanding in this sensitive and painful matter, the text highlighted.

Following news published about the possible unconfirmed death of the doctors due to a military operation with drones in the town of Dilib (Somalia), the president of the National Assembly traveled to Kenya to make urgent arrangements with the highest authorities.

Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, affirmed that the highest priority of the Government of the Island is to know the current situation of the two doctors, kidnapped in Mandera (Kenya) on April 12, 2019.

As a result of the steps taken by comrade Esteban Lazo, as High Level Special Envoy of the President of the Republic, President of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State, during his visit to the Republic of Kenya and, specifically, his meeting with President William Ruto, sensitive information has been obtained that helps to advance in the still limited clarification of the news spread about the alleged deaths of the Cuban doctors Dr. Assel Herrera Correa and Dr. Landy Rodriguez Hernandez, in Somalia, where they were kidnapped.

Comrade Lazo noted the spirit of cooperation of the Kenyan government and thanked them for their understanding in this sensitive and painful matter.

The information obtained is currently being processed by the authorities in charge of closely following up such an important investigation. In the meantime, efforts continue with different governments and international actors in search of cooperation and further clarification.
