Havana, Feb 14 (ACN) The representatives of the Arab Group at the United Nations urged the Security Council on Wednesday to act towards a ceasefire in Gaza in the face of threats about an Israeli military escalation against Rafah.
Palestinian ambassador Riyad Mansour asked the Security Council to “assume its responsibility, act immediately and stop the attacks to save Rafah from a coming catastrophe,” Pl news agency reported.
“Our effort implies doing all we can to prevent Israel from committing the crime of depopulate Gaza Strip and stop the war immediately,” said the ambassador who praised the role of Algeria in drawing up a resolution to be soon submitted to the Council.
Half the population of Gaza, estimated at over one million people, is crowded in Rafah with little to eat, poor medical attention, no safe place to go.
