Cuba appreciates recognition of its leadership with G77 and China


HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 23 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, today thanked the recognition expressed to the leadership, efforts and work of Cuba in the pro tempore presidency pro tempore of the Group of 77 (G77) and China.

On X, the Foreign Minister highlighted the statements made by several representatives of the member countries of the group during the Third South Summit recently concluded in Uganda, in which the Cuban delegation was headed by Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa.

In his message, Rodriguez Parrilla also ratified the firm commitment of Cuba to the interests of the countries of the South.

On Sunday, at the official handover of the pro tempore presidency to Uganda, Valdes Mesa affirmed that Cuba will always be committed to the defense of unity within diversity.

In this regard, Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of Cuba, highlighted on Tuesday on X, the great honor it was for the Caribbean nation to chair the G77 and China for the first time.
We handed over the presidency aware that the Group was strengthened and advanced in its agenda, despite the difficulties imposed on us by the genocidal blockade of the United States, the head of state added.

The G77 and China is the largest bloc of developing countries within the United Nations System, with 134 member states representing two thirds of the membership of the United Nations and 80 percent of the world's population.
