HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 15 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, reiterated today his support for Guatemala's President-elect, Bernardo Arevalo de Leon.
On X, the Cuban head of state urged respect for the popular will expressed in the results of the presidential elections.
We ratify our support to the Guatemalan president, as well as to the will and democratic decision of the people, declared Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, on the same social network.
On Sunday, at Arevalo's inauguration, the Caribbean delegation was led by Jorge Luis Tapia, Cuban deputy prime minister.
Arevalo, a sociologist by profession, former diplomat, described as progressive and winner of the August 2023 elections, will assume the presidential chair for the 2024-2028 period.
Cuba and Guatemala established diplomatic relations on April 30, 1902, the date on which the Day of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries is commemorated.
