Cuba expresses solidarity with Japan after earthquake

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 3 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban Foreign Minister, expressed  Cuba's solidarity and heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Japan for the damage caused by a powerful earthquake that occurred on Monday.
 
On X, Cuban diplomat regretted the loss of human lives and material damages caused by the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that affected the Ishikawa prefecture, in the center of the country.
 
In his message, Rodriguez Parrilla extended his condolences to the families and relatives of the victims, who according to local authorities number 30 dead, in addition to an undetermined number of people still trapped in the rubble.
 
The earthquake caused severe structural damage in the city of Wajima, as well as a large-scale fire that consumed more than one hundred buildings, including homes and commercial establishments, Prensa Latina reported.
 
According to the information, significant damage was also reported in the prefectures of Niigata, Fukui, Toyama and Gifu, and seismic activity continues in the center of the country, with an increase in the risk of house collapses and landslides in the places where the tremor had greater intensity.
 
Japan has regular seismic activity due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region highly prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity.
