HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 14 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, described as balanced, but insufficient, the results of the recently concluded United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-28) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
From his account on X, Cuban diplomat affirmed that proof of this is the adoption of a transcendental decision on the first "Global Assessment of the Paris Agreement", which includes the need to urgently and deeply reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This historic consensus, Rodriguez Parrilla continued, also included important decisions on the Global Adaptation Goal, the Program to Strengthen Mitigation, the Program on Just Transition and the operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund.
On the other hand, with the Summit of Leaders of the Group of 77 and China convened by Cuba, in its capacity as president pro tempore, the Caribbean island contributed to maintaining at COP-28 the unity and decisive action of the Group around the legitimate demands of the countries of the South, said the head of Cuban diplomacy.
The industrialized countries, wrote the foreign minister in another message, have the duty to fulfill their commitments and the goal of zero emissions, given their historical responsibility.
The new generations will judge them by the facts, he said. Only a new international economic order will guarantee a just energy transition, the Cuban foreign minister concluded.
During the closing of COP-28, Elba Rosa Perez Montoya, Cuban minister of science, technology and environment, reaffirmed Cuba's firm commitment to the climate regime, as stated in the Nationally Determined Contribution.
