President of Namibia received Díaz-Canel

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 27 (ACN) Namibian President Hage Geingob received Miguel Díaz-Canel, the Cuban head of State, to hold official talks.

On the occasion of their meeting, Mr. Geingob wrote on the X network (formerly Twitter), "Our home is your home. In Namibia we consider Cubans as our brothers and sisters".

The Namibian leader recalled the historical ties that unite both peoples and praised the services provided by Cuban specialists in his country in areas such as medical care. Likewise, he denounced the U.S. blockade, which prevents Cuba from buying medical supplies in the U.S.

On his end, Díaz-Canel stressed that his visit has a special significance, among other reasons because the current generation of Cuban leaders defines itself as continuators of the Revolution and its principles of solidarity.

The Cuban president also reasserted his willingness to boost cooperation with Namibia in various fields and he recalled the slave trade that ravaged this land in colonial times and how the Namibians enslaved in Cuba, who fought for their freedom and joined the Cuban independence war, enriched the Cuban nationality with their culture, beliefs, and bravery.

“As President Geingob recognizes the Cuban internationalists who fought in Angola alongside the SWAPO, we can say that you gave us that courage,” Díaz-Canel remarked. “That is why Fidel Castro said that we Cubans are Latin-Africans (…) and, as he stressed, we came to these lands to pay our debt to Africa.”

The Cuban leader invited Mr. Geingob to make an official visit to Cuba, suggested steps to strengthen cooperation between the Communist Party of Cuba and SWAPO, and reasserted his wish for a proper African and particularly Namibian presence in the upcoming G77+China summit on science and technology, scheduled to take place in September in Havana.
