HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 31 (ACN) Miriam Nicado Garcia, rector of the University of Havana (UH), said today in Beijing that governments have a leading role in the institutionalization of education through the implementation of public policies that favor local development.
During her speech at the World Forum of University Presidents in China, the Cuban academic pointed out the need for a sustainable university in the training of developing citizens, Prensa Latina reported.
Nicado Garcia recalled how the Cuban government, since the revolutionary triumph of January 1, 1959, strengthened the link between economic and social development and scientific policy, while highlighting facts such as the creation of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Innovation Council.
As part of her work agenda, the UH rector spoke with Zhou Zuoyu, vice president of Beijing Pedagogical University, and signed an agreement with the University of Communications of China to promote cooperation in areas such as the exchange of students and teachers and participation in research projects.
