Cuba-Russia intergovernmental commission to hold session in Havana



HAVANA, Cuba, May 17, (ACN) The 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for economic-commercial and scientific-technical collaboration between Cuba and Russia will be held tomorrow, Thursday, in Havana, with the aim of strengthening ties in these sectors in line with the excellent political relations that exist at the highest level.

The respective delegations will be headed by Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, deputy prime minister and head of the ministry of foreign trade and investment ( MINCEX by its Spanish acronym); and Dmitry Chernyshenko, vice president of the government of the Russian Federation.

In their capacity as co-presidents of the Commission, both officials will take part in the meeting and will sign the Final Act and other documents, according to MINCEX sources reported to the Cuban News Agency.

Also, in the context of the important meeting, today Wednesday and Friday will take place the Business Economic Forum and the Meeting of the Cuba-Russia Business Committee.

Dialogues and business rounds will be held at the 1930 Hall of the Hotel Nacional, where businessmen from both countries will exchange on ways to strengthen ties in areas of common interest such as transportation logistics, agro-industrial cooperation, innovation, digital transformation, construction and tourism.

Prior to the celebration of these meetings, high-ranking officials from the Eurasian nation visited Havana, such as Maxim Oreshkin, Economic Advisor to the Presidency; Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Vyacheslav Volodin, president of the State Duma (lower house).

According to authorities from the Caribbean island nation, there is interest for Russia to continue participating actively in the National Plan for Economic and Social Development until 2030, and to promote joint projects compatible with the Economic-Social Strategy aimed at boosting the economy and facing the world crisis caused by Covid-19.

During a working meeting in Havana with Maxim Oreshkin, economic advisor to the Russian presidency, the deputy prime minister and head of MINCEX recalled that Russia is Cuba's second largest regional trading partner and the fifth largest in the world.
